In late June, Al Sharpton and four citywide candidates—Bill DeBlasio, John Liu, Scott Stringer and Letitia James—led a demonstration in Bill Thompson’s home territory, the Bed Stuy section of Brooklyn, where he lived all his life until 2004. They were protesting the mismanagement of Interfaith Medical Center, the last remaining hospital serving the neighborhood. Interfaith had filed for bankruptcy months earlier and was still run by managers from the company, Kurron Shares of America, that had led the death march. Had Thompson come, he would have been protesting against his own one-time business associates. In 2010 and 2011, as the hospital plunged toward bankruptcy, Thompson was serving as a paid member of the advisory board of a Kurron sister company, working intimately with the owner – a man named Corbett Price who’d been his friend since the 1990s and whose family, employees and firm have donated nearly $20,000 to Thompson campaigns, starting with his first race in 2001.

Weiner showed some gumption, such as in 2005, when he went to Morningside Heights to call on Columbia University to confront the anti-Israel ideology that had infected its campus. Weiner was the first public official to enter that fray on the side of the Jewish students. Weiner has been active in the Israel cause in less-well-known ways. For one, he wrote the law that gives an American born in Jerusalem the right to a US passport listing his country of birth as Israel. Hillary Clinton was a senator at the time, but when she became secretary of state, she refused to obey the law. After the parents of an infant named Menachem Binyamin Zivotofsky sued for his rights under the law, Weiner filed an amicus brief in federal court against the same secretary of state for whom his wife was working.

The BOE is A Political Tool
Council Control of the BOE Led to Petition Shredding
There
is evidence that since the City Council shake up Of the Board of Election’s
commissioners, the Board has become more corrupt. The board is now being
run by several key council members and their political pals. Led by Councilman
James Oddo the 4 GOP members of the council now have more power than the GOP
county leaders. They have picked the new
GOP bosses in Staten Island, the Bronx and are along with Senator Golden trying
to dump the Brooklyn GOP leader.
With
the help of the council GOP gang of 4 Senator Golden push out GOP chairman Craig Eaton guy at
the BOE and replaced him with his supporter Simon Shamoun. Now Golden is trying to use his control of the
BOE to drive out Brooklyn GOP county leader Eaton. Since Shamoun took over at the BOE, employees
put in the job by Eaton have experienced constant threats of losing their
jobs. Shamoun bullied most of the Eaton job holders
to join Golden slate running against Eaton.
Getting a patronage job at the BOE has often been described as the last
stop. Meaning, that board workers have
problems finding jobs. Not the Donald Trump independent type.
The Great Petition Shredding BOE mystery
On
July 19th at around 11PM, a 20 page volume of Brooklyn GOP county
leader Craig Eaton slate for the 46th Assembly District was shredded
by BOE employees. Political observers
have never heard of petitions being destroyed during the BOE review process. Safeguards
are supposed to be in place to protect the BOE petitions in the procession of
the board. There is a strong buzz going
around that BOE employees overheard Golden and Shamoun trash talking that they
wanted Eaton’s petitions gone. Shamoun
mother is on the Golden slate opposing the petitions that were destroyed. Board safeguard rules state that every time a
petition is handled that includes making copies of them, there must be jointly
controlled by both a GOP and Democratic employee of the BOE.
Shredding Golden Brooklyn GOP Take Over
What the BOE is telling the interested parties that the petitions were handled by only the democratic employee, Gregory Jackson. The BOE says that Jackson told another democrat to copy them and that employee thought Jackson said shred them. Another source said that the petitions were signed out by a GOP employee David Annarummo who was supposed to be the co supervisor with Democratic Jackson. David mother Clorinda is the co-leader with Shamoun in the 46th Assembly District. David is also on the Golden slate head by his mother running against Eaton in the 46th AD. The BOE has not explained why their petition sign out rules were violated. An election lawyer for one of the other slates who is trying to get to the bottom of why the Eaton petitions were destroyed was working on a court subpoena for Shamoun at the last BOE meeting.
The BOE is the Center of the Fight for Party Control, Not A Place Where Fair and Competent Elections Are Run
One of Golden’s supporters noticed his work and texted Shamoun who along with the other 10 commissions was running the Brooklyn hearing which determines which petitions are good. Once he got the text Shamoun left the meeting without explanation. Could it be that Simon Shamoun, an attorney and a public official, was trying to avoid personal legal service of some sort? That would be unseemly to say the least. One suspects that there are a few very specific subpoenas out there in connection with giving testimonial evidence in Brooklyn Supreme Court concerning the irregular handling of petitions at the Board of Elections leading to an alleged shredding of a volume of signatures and the substitution of a photocopied volume in its place. Today's session before the Hon. David Schmidt should be very interesting. A subpoena was later served on BOE counsel Steve Richman for (a) specific BOE witness(es).
Update: According to a Gadfly in the Golden camp senator Golden side was so scared about the lawyer for opposing side pursuing the subpoena business they stipulated that the two candidates thrown off by ballot by Shamoun's motion at the commissioners hearing (before he absconded) to sustain the Clerks report were to be reinstated to the ballot.

Brooklyn Boss Seddio Pushes for Vito Lopez Puppet to Run the BOE
Staten Island’s Mike Ryan still believes he has a shot at running the beleaguered Board of Elections, despite what appears to be a significant behind-the-scenes push by Brooklyn Democratic Chair Frank Seddio to get Brooklyn Councilman Erik Dilan the job. “For those who chose not vote for me, they have to make their own decisions [for] their own reasons, [but] I believe this process will continue and perhaps on further reflection they may come to a different conclusion,” Mr. Ryan told the Daily News. Mr. Dilan, of course, is the crucial 34th vote the City Council needs to override Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s veto of the controversial racial profiling bill.

Haggerty’s attorney, Paul Shechtman, filed a stay application on his client’s behalf following Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman’s decision last month that the high court will take up his case. Bail was set at $300,000 cash, which Haggerty had already paid back in 2011.
Haggerty, as you’ll recall, was convicted of stealing $750,000 worth of Mayor Bloomberg’s money that was contributed via the billionaire mayor’s foundation to the state Independence Party during the 2009 New York City mayor’s race and intended to pay for an Election Day voting security program that never materialized.

Mayoral hopeful Thompson is playing all angles on police tactics. Will the real Bill Thompson please stand up? The Times characterized Thompson as saying that campaign jousting had “glossed over its usefulness as a police tool, even as he forcefully criticized its excesses over the past few years.”
Councilman Jumaane Williams explained mayoral hopeful Bill Thompson‘s race relations speech by musing about his poll numbers among black voters. “I think he originally felt that certain segments of the population were going to go with him automatically. The Media That Hijacked the Mayoral Campaign Keeps Bitching About Weiner and Spitzer, Why?
Who is Beating the Drums to Remover Weiner? And Why
MSNBC Ari Melber in and op-ed in the Daily News gets some things right and others wrong when about what the city's permanent government is doing to the Weiner campaign. Melber is right that “some powerful voices” are literally trying to drive him out of the race." He describes Weiner's opponents as institutional voices and editorial boards. Melber is also right that "We have elections so that voters can decide who should lead. Sure,
there are a few requirements to get on the ballot — like being a
resident and collecting petition signatures — but beyond that, we leave
it to the voters to decide who is legit." Weiner defies the sex police (NYDN)
Permanent Government Using Sex to Keep Control
Where Melber goes very wrong is when he says the city's establishment is upset with Weiner's sexual habits. The permanent government is going after Weiner because they cannot control him, not sexually, but his policies and the way he would govern. Weiner knows how to go around them. Meaning the real estate developers who run the NYC Partnership might not get their millions is tax breaks to build luxury housing and push more middle class our of the city if Weiner is mayor. Can you imagine is the city's establishment use their toys, the city media to drive our corruption and sexual harassment from politics, or fix the schools, keep hospitals open for the poor? Weiner's nutty sexual habits has outed the media's power to go after problems. They just don't care about problems that do not effect them. The gift of graft(NYP)
Political corruption in Albany takes many forms. The most noxious is the kind that goes around the law. Take Dov Hikind. Crain’s New York Business reports the Brooklyn assemblyman has set up an advertising company that, among other clients, collects $65,000 a year from Maimonides Medical Center — which Hikind then regularly plugs on his radio show and in his official newsletters.
Two problems here: First, Hikind is taking money from an institution that regularly lobbies him and other legislators for cash. Indeed, some 80 percent of Maimonides’ government grants come from the state Health Department. Second, Hikind has never reported a penny of this outside income, as is required. Only after being questioned by Crain’s did he suddenly file amended disclosure forms dating back to 2006.

Assembly Lawyer to Step Down Over Failure to Investigate Sex Harassment Claims
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s office said Tuesday that a top
Assembly lawyer would step down amid revelations that the Assembly staff
failed to investigate sexual harassment claims involving another Assembly Democrat.
Four years ago, a junior staff member in Assemblyman Micah Z. Kellner’s
office complained to her supervisor that she was being harassed by Mr.
Kellner, an Upper East Side Democrat. The supervisor, a top aide to Mr.
Kellner, reported the matter to Bill Collins, who, as counsel to the
majority party, ran the Assembly’s legal staff. The senior Kellner aide
presented Mr. Collins with 15 pages of Internet chat transcripts, in
which Mr. Kellner made suggestive remarks to the junior staff member, a
woman in her early 20s who was new to the job.
Kellner: 'While I was still single, I exchanged instant messages w/ a female member of my staff that were flirtatious. It was inappropriate'

Since 2007, Council Speaker Christine Quinn funneled more than $130,000 in discretionary funds to a private park in Queens, leading to criticism from a strategist for her mayoral rival Bill Thompson, the Post reports: Through a $50 million pot of “member items” Quinn controls as council speaker, she allocated $25,000 this year to Friends of Sunnyside Gardens Park, a nonprofit that runs a 3 1/2-acre playground and recreation space that is open only to members.
