Local TV Which Took in Millions From the CSNY Ignors Gambling Funding Story

TV Take the Money and Misinforms
Local TV Political Bag Men's Citizens United  Cover-Up
Cuomo and his supporters spent over $10 million last year to gain public support to push through his agenda. Yet if you watch local news this morning or read their website not a word on how gambling interests funded the Committee to Save NY.  The NYT, NYP and Daily News which did not get any CSNY commercial money all had stories. Not only is local TV boycotting the CSNY funding story but their lobbyists and lawyer are fighting in Washington the FCC which wants them to make public on their websites what political ads they are running and who is paying for them. Local TV Paid Political News 24/7
If you were watching local news when the budget was passed you would have seen dozens of commercials paid for by The Committee to Save New York (business interests supporting Cuomo) called "Turn the Tide" which told the views that Governor Cuomo did a wonderful job at fixing pensions and the states economy. Controlling and Managing the News in Our Era of Weak Dumb Down Journalism
Cuomo’s bad bet(NYP Ed) Cuomo is coming under fire following the disclosure that gambling interests have provided at least $2.4 million to his unofficial advocacy group, the Committee to Save New York.  The Post argues Cuomo’s relationship with the Committee to Save New York is less than a scandal, but allegations of impropriety are “decidedly unhelpful” to the governor * Defense Offered for Cuomo on Ties to Lobbying Group(NYT) Bloomberg says he supports Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s relationship with the Committee to Save New York * The Governor and the Committee (NYT Ed)  New Yorkers need to know who is contributing millions to influence state politics. NYT notes 501(c)(4)s are supposed to have social welfare purpose, wonders what CSNY's is - other than promoting Cuomo.
The New York Times calls on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to disclose donors to the Committee to Save New York in the wake of news gambling interests gave heavily to the organization last year. “We are eager to know what that purpose is for the committee, beyond supporting Mr. Cuomo and promoting the interests of its contributors.” * Casinos Wagered Early on Cuomo(WSJ) For roughly 20 minutes, the governor and other guests huddled around a laptop on a dining table to watch a slide show presentation of the Malaysian gambling giant's ambitious bid, according to guests who were present. Genting executives had a face-to-face meeting with Gov. Andrew Cuomo in October, during a previously undisclosed Westchester fundraiser, where they pitched their plan for a casino * Committee That Promotes Cuomo Agenda Reportedly Got $2M From Gaming Interests (NY1) *  When is a PAC not a PAC? Answer: When it's a 501(c)(4) lobbying committee. Then cooperation is A-OK. * Cuomo spox: Coordination w/lobbying grp like CSNY "wholly proper, common, and necessary." As long as it's not a PAC. * * The Buffalo Niagara Partnership helped bundle $800,000 in contributions from Western New York business interests to the Committee, the Buffalo News reports * Regulations requiring disclosure of donors to groups like CSNY probably won’t be in effect until next year, the Times-Union writes * New disclosure requirements about who’s fueling some of the Capitol’s most prominent lobbying groups – including CSNY – may not be in effect until next year.* Cuomo's link to the Committee to Save New York is 'necessary,' aides(Capital) * Report: Cuomo backer got $2M in donations(NYDN) * Committee to Save New York spokesman Mike McKeon said there are no plans to do that. Murrow: Wires and Lights in A Box
Today, most Americans say they get most of their information from local television news. How well are local broadcasters living up to the public interest promises they made in order to get their licenses? Edward R. Murrow answered that question 50 years ago. “This instrument can teach (TV  now the Internet), it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires and lights in a box."

Cuomo's Win on Stop and Frisk, Bloomberg Kelly 180
Andy hits jack‘pot’(Goodwin, NYP) With the battle over stop-and-frisk threatening to become a war, Gov. Cuomo has demonstrated again a knack for threading the political needle. Much as he is taming Albany’s ferocious appetite for spending, Cuomo found a judicious fix that should reduce objections to the crime-stopping tool while leaving the program largely intact. * Pot Arrests Fall 25% Across City(WSJ) * Gov. Cuomo's push to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana will put an end to New York's reefer madness (NYDN Ed) Could ease opposition to NYPD's stop, question and frisk tactic* loomberg admitted he’s concerned that the city’s controversial stop-and-frisk operation has not cut down on shootings – something he says the NYPD is “working on.”
* Arrests on New York’s lowest-level marijuana charge – possessing less than 25 grams in public view – went down sharply across the city after a September order by NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly to issue only a summons for the offense. Michael Bloomberg and Ray Kelly's support for curbing marijuana arrests is a "startling turnaround" for them. [Jim Dwyer] * Flashback: Bloomberg aide Frank Barry wrote, "Marijuana arrests can be an effective tool for suppressing the expansion of street-level drug markets and the corresponding violence." [Jim Dwyer] *
Flashback: "On the Upper East Side of Manhattan where the mayor lives, an average of 20 people for every 100,000 residents were arrested on the lowest-level misdemeanor pot charge in 2007, 2008 and 2009. "During those same years, the marijuana arrest rate in Brownsville, Brooklyn, was 3,109 for every 100,000 residents." And: "For blacks and Latinos, it is very, very illegal. But not in Mr. Bloomberg’s neighborhood." [Jim Dwyer] * Genting's stock dropped 4.1 percent, "its largest fall since Feb. 8," after Cuomo said their talks about building a casino and convention center in Queens "haven't worked out."
