True News Sunday Update: Opposition to Terror Trials in New York Building

Corporations Have Free Speech But Not New Yorkers

Police can to a man's home and arrested him for writting “The Jerk,” about three inches high, on a campaign poster for James P. Molinaro, the Staten Island borough president. Edward Kerry Sullivan had also letters to a newspaper and public officials, criticizing the borough president’s plans to develop part of the Staten Island waterfront. NYT Editorial Rejects the Ethic Bill Pasted by Legislature
Daily News Also Calls Albany Hypocrits
"Senator Liz Krueger, a Democrat from Manhattan who voted for the bill, told her colleagues, “We need to not pat ourselves on the back that much because we have further to go.”

Actually, they should not congratulate themselves at all. Gov. David Paterson was right to threaten to veto the bill, and if the Legislature sends it to him, he should do just that." Governor Paterson’s Turn on Ethics

The NYT is going after what Albany always does when it come to ethics pass weak bills full of loop holes. In 2005 the the legislature and good government groups worked together with then senate majority leader Bruno to pass an ethic bill that allowed him to steal the state blind. What the NYT editorial did not explore was why the good government groups so blindly follow what the pols want. Perhaps they should look into who funds these groups as Paterson suggested.

The NYT wants Albany to: 1) limit the use of campaign money, 2) Give the attorney general authority to enforce campaign finance laws, 3) more disclosure about the private businesses of legislators, 4) The ethics bill should create a more independent overseer for all of Albany, 5) establish public financing of campaigns, as in New York City and 6) create a nonpartisan commission on redistricting before the election this fall. In the past Albany has ignored the NYT and all the newspaper editorial as True News has reported on before The Audacity of Bruno's Corruption: Editorial Board Outrage Over the Years Leads Nowhere It is a good sign that they are going after Manhattan reformers who have become enables of Albany corruption *** Slimeball ethics: Legislators turned ethics bill into just another cynical political ploy *The Governor the Legislature and Reform (Queens Tribune

Opposition to Terror Trials in New York Building

The president has reacted to the Boston Tea Party vote by attacking Wall Street, the Supreme Court ruling on giving the corporations the right to spend what they want and having hamburgers with the guys. Obama Sharpens His Populist Tone

Perhaps he should also look at what some pollsters think Brown won the campaign on. His opposition on the presidents terrorism policies. During the campaign, Brown repeatedly railed against criminal trials for terrorism suspects, took out a television ad opposing giving “rights to terrorists who want to harm us” and declared that he did not view water-boarding as torture. In his nationally televised victory speech Tuesday night, the senator-elect seized on the issue again.“I believe that our Constitution and laws exist to protect this nation - they do not grant rights and privileges to enemies in wartime,” Brown said. “In dealing with terrorists, our tax dollars should pay for weapons to stop them, not lawyers to defend them.”Brown a 'game changer on terrorism?
