Carnival Operator Pleas Guilty to Bribing Monserrate
Ex-Carnival Operator Admits Bribing Lawmaker for Permits(NYT)
The former operator, Lawrence Carr, whose company put on carnivals across New York City and along the East Coast for years, admitted in Federal District Court in Brooklyn that he had made payments to Hiram Monserrate, a former city councilman and state senator from Queens. Mr. Carr pleaded guilty to one charge of making a false statement and faces up to six months in prison under the sentencing guidelines. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 21.  Several people with knowledge of Mr. Carr’s case said that when he was first taken into custody in 2011 he implicated a number of other elected officials. But Mr. Carr stopped short of cooperating with the government after his arrest, the people said; he pleaded not guilty and planned to go to trial.

Local TV News' Corruption

TV News Has A Dome of Silence Over New York's Pols Corruption

More than 90 percent of New Yorkers believe corruption is a serious problem in Albany. Almost as many — 82 percent — believe term limits would cut the rot

Local TV News Plays It Safe With Crime Stories, Cooking, Weather, Sports and Happy News
Local TV News Does Not Cover Corruption
Print journalists have long chafed at broadcast media pilfering their stories, often without bothering to credit the source. The thinness in assembling TV news -- and the manner in which they use newspapers as de facto tip sheets and newsgathering surrogates - has long been one of broadcasting's dirty little secrets. When local TV does something on corrupt it only offers headlines of who was indicted. This type of reporting ignores what U.S. Attorney Bharara asked the media not to do. "Rather than just covering the cases that my office and other offices are already bringing, figure out ways to break new ground and to cover new stories," Bharara said. "Groundbreaking corruption coverage is not just good copy, it's a path to good government." Newsday columnist William F. B. O'Reilly  and a Republican political consultant does a corporate anti union hit on the WFB and Misses the Story
GOP Consultant O'Reilly is so busy attacking the WFP as anti business that he misses the most important fact about the future of the WFP.  He say the WFP was previously investigated for election fraud. WRONG. SI DA Donovan last year reopened his investigation of the WFP attempt to defraud the city's matching fund program. Which ever business pac hired O'Reilly should demand their money back.  By the way the new WFP investigation if it results in charges could knock down the de Blasio campaign for mayor.

It says so right on the WFP website. The WFP-led coalition, calling itself the Fair Elections for New York Coalition, would have us believe that so virtuous are its intentions, that between $750,000 and $1 million has rained down on the group in the past few weeks to advance its high-minded cause. That money, which fell from the sky like manna from reform heaven, will be used on television ads beginning next week attacking "the big money crowd."
